About us
The Space began in early 2006 as an arts and media networking event, but its focus soon became the guests. It has been held at many intimate Brighton venues and is currently at Horatio’s on Brighton Palace Pier. Each event has two guests, occasionally one, often high profile, interviewed separately on their work and achievements.
The interviews are really like conversations, certainly informal and generally light-hearted. There are audience Q&As after each one, then a raffle draw, which constantly has fabulous prizes, some very special. Many guests are key behind the scenes figures within the arts and popular culture, including film, TV and music, such as editors, directors, producers and costume designers.
We have also held film events at Brighton’s Duke of York’s cinema, consisting of special screenings and guests connected with the films. They marked anniversaries of Alien, The Shining, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Peter Sellers’ death, with a Dr. Strangelove screening. Others included A Movie Music Masterclass with composers David Arnold and Anne Dudley.
Wayne imms
The Space’s creator, its producer and promoter, Wayne Imms, has presented the events since late 2017. The arts, especially popular culture, is a long-term passion for him, as an observer, somewhat of a documenter and quite an expert.
His particular interests, of which he’s highly knowledgeable, are film, popular music and television, as well as comedy, and the media in general. Wayne’s long radio background has included conceiving and producing BBC Radio 2 documentaries, including on Lionel Richie, the Mamas and the Papas and Star Trek.
